COMPREHENSIVE DIAGNOSTICS

As an error-recovery tool, pdsfast reports conditions that IEBCOPY does not, such as invalid TTR pointers, incorrectly formatted data blocks, invalid DEBs or DSCBs, and I/O errors.
Extensive internal and external error checking detects and prevents errors before they become production problems.
Comprehensive diagnostics help avoid costly disasters by detecting bad data sets passed over by IEBCOPY and other utilities, improving data reliability and programmer productivity.

AUTO FEATURES

The Auto Facility automates many common DASD/data management functions, thus relieving DASD managers and end users from time-consuming, repetitive, and error-prone tasks. By preventing unnecessary job reruns it also increases productivity.
In addition, the Auto Facility augments basic PDS functionality through features such as:
  • Automatic compression of data sets
  • Automatic allocation of secondary extents
  • Automatic resizing of the output directory when the directory is too small
  • Automatic reblocking when copying a load library to an output data set with a different blocksize.


ENHANCED PRODUCTIVITY FEATURES

pdsfast performs high-speed copy and compress operations under ISPF or TSO. pdsfast automatically performs a compress when space is needed and increases the number of directory blocks when more are required. In addition to providing easy access to high-speed performance for on-line operations, pdsfast also offers functions that are not generally available under ISPF.

IMPROVED PROCESSING

pdsfast speeds up all levels of SMP processing by 75% to 90%.
When substituted for IEBCOPY, pdsfast transparently processes all batch JCL streams, ISPF 3.1/3.3 COMPRESS/COPY requests, and dynamic invocations within SMP runs. Anywhere IEBCOPY is invoked, pdsfast can be used for significant savings. No DASD management configuration is complete without pdsfast.

ENHANCED LIBRARY RECOVERY

pdsfast can copy and compress CICS, IMS DB2, and other database libraries in a fraction of the time required by other PDS utilities, thereby reducing application downtime. This is especially useful in restoring database libraries during disaster recovery. For example, pdsfast reduces elapsed time for a copy or compress of a screen or panel library from 40 minutes to approximately 4 minutes.
